Scope: which credential this guide covers

PL01 is the journey-level plumber certificate. Residential, pump and other specialty certificates are different categories. Official source ↗

Use this checklist when reviewing a plumber for work in Washington. It addresses the Journey Level (PL01) Plumber Certificate; it is not a complete inventory of every credential that a particular role or assignment may require.

Match PL01 to the planned assignment

Record PL01 explicitly instead of a generic “plumber” label when reviewing the workforce. A residential or pump specialty certificate should trigger a different scope check. Keep the plumbing contractor’s business record distinct from each individual’s certificate, especially when reviewing subcontractor crews.

Protect the first renewal from a date assumption

When adding a newly certified plumber, transcribe the L&I expiration date from the record rather than calculating three years from the exam. Assign one person to check the CE subject split and another reviewer or accountable owner to confirm the renewed status. Preserve the previous certificate for the review history.

Evidence to retain for the reviewer

  • The exact credential category, jurisdiction and authority record checked.
  • Current status and the expiration or registration period shown by the authority.
  • The supporting document, verification date and accountable review owner.
  • Any unresolved scope or assignment question, with a follow-up date.

These are recommended employer records, not a claim that the authority mandates this particular software or checklist.

Renewal context for the staffing calendar

Three-year birthday-based renewals; the initial certificate may run 25–37 months. Official source ↗

How this guide is maintained

Regulatory facts cite official government or licensing-authority pages. Unconfirmed values stay unknown. Employer checklists are suggested internal workflows, not additional licensing rules. Reviewed records have a maximum 90-day review window; overdue records leave the sitemap and search indexing until rechecked.
