Requirements
Document 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under a master electrician. Applicants may qualify for the examination at 7,000 hours, but licensing requires the full experience. Official source ↗

Separate exam eligibility from license eligibility
An apprentice approaching the exam threshold may be ready to schedule a test without being ready for a journeyman assignment. Collect the supervisor’s experience verification and record both milestones. Do not replace the apprentice credential with a journeyman entry until issuance has been confirmed. This prevents a passed exam from appearing as an active license in a staffing report.
